Welcome to the University Of Sheffield Debating Society!

Everybody knows the feeling... when you read the headlines; when your mates spout out absurdities; when you just can't believe the way things are...is this you?

Then you need to come to Sheffield Debating. We run two nights a week but they are different so take quick peek below to see what we offer. The nights are:

Monday 7pm, Coffee Revolution - come and watch!
and
Tuesday 8-10pm, The Peaks (9th Feb) or Council Chambers- want to learn to debate?

Monday Night Debates

Seen a motion that interests you? Why not come along to one of our monday night debates? Every Monday, 7pm in Coffee Revolution we have a public debate which you can come and watch. You will get a chance to say what you think too but you don't have to speak if you don't want to. Go to our "Upcoming Events" section on the left. The motion for the next debate is in the top right of the site.

Tuesday Night Workshops

Have you ever wanted to be able to speak in public or have you ever wanted to become better at arguing a case? We want to teach you both! Everybody at some point in their lives has to do some public speaking - whether at a postgraduate level, doing a PhD viva or simply doing a presentation at work. Tuesday nights at The Peaks are a chance for you to learn this skill in an environment with friendly teachers who have been through it and know exactly how scary it is to be a beginner.

So if you want to get good at speaking in public, Tuesdays, 8-10pm, The Peaks is for you. (We meet at 7:50pm in the Union Foyer.)

Directions

From the main doors to the Concourse:

Coffee Revolution - to the left of the building site there is a door straight into Coffee Revolution

The Peaks - go into Coffee Revolution (as above) and go out of the main doors of the cafe into the Union. Go up the stairs, turn around and go through the double doors, entering the Gallery. The Peaks is a room on the left.

Council Chambers - facing the building site from the concourse, go to the right towards the Octagon. Go into the Octagon and go down the stairs, and through the door on the left. The Council Chambers is a door on the right.
